Architectural Redaction (The Park Hotel, Carlton), 2025
3D printed resin and PLA, acrylic, LED lights, scale 1:100
In this work, the architecture of the Park Hotel, used as detention site from 2020 – 2022, is reconstructed both as an accurate record of the building and to explore the contradictory qualities of opacity within its architectural operation. The use of material makes the building perceptible as a redaction, printed in translucent black photopolymer resin, rendering its surface legible while keeping internal spaces and operations partially obscured. This limited transparency does not aim to fully reveal but to bear witness to the manipulations made to be building to obscure its function.
The representation is placed on a lightbox, and internal LED lights illuminate different parts of the building to draw attention to this quality of concealment.
